Sometimes a song speaks for itself. But while many in the media had plenty to say when it came to speculation that Katy Perry’s 80s rock-inspired song “Circle The Drain” was a musical diss about singer and ex-boyfriend Travie McCoy, both have been pretty mum when it comes to directly addressing the specifics of what or who the song is about.
That is until now.
When MTV News caught up with Travie in search of his thoughts on the track, his comments were a little tongue-in-cheek, sprinkled with what some may interpret as a bit of a diss right back at his ex.
“I heard she put out a song that people said that’s about me, or some old habits or whatever, you know,” he said. “I look at it like this: I’m just stoked that she finally has a song with some substance on her record, you know. Good job.” He then began laughing at his own statement.
Depending on how you choose to view the glass (either half empty or half full), substance could be a reference to the “Teenage Dream” singer’s music or the subject matter on the song.
“Circle The Drain” is one of the darker songs on Perry’s latest album. About an ex and his drug addiction, it features lyrics such as, “You fall asleep during foreplay/’Cause the pill you take are more your forte/I’m not sticking around to watch you go down.”
